Opportunist thieves broke into a Tesco wagon and stole thousands of pounds worth of cigarettes and tobacco.  

The incident took place at around 10am on Friday, when a Tesco HGV, destined for a supermarket in Blackpool, was being driven along the A585 Fleetwood Road. 

A spokesperson for the police said: "At some point between the Shell Garage close to Greenhalgh Lane and the Windy Harbour lights, the driver has stopped to let a vehicle turn.

"It is thought that the wagon was then broken into via the back doors.

"Thieves stole thousands of pounds worth of cigarettes and tobacco.

"We are asking anyone who was travelling in the area and saw what happened to get in touch."
