JOHN Duffy rued Leigh's poor discipline as they suffered a 30-16 Betfred Super League defeat to Wigan.

The Centurions have yet to win a game this season but started strongly against the Warriors, with the scores locked at 16-16 at half-time.

But Wigan stepped up a gear in the second half to pile on three more tries to condemn Leigh to their sixth straight loss of 2021.

"The first half we were outstanding, we stuck to the plan well," Duffy said. "Then I just thought we were a bit ill-disciplined after half-time and we got beaten by a great side.

"We have to keep plugging away, we have to compete for longer periods. We've got to be better at training and have that continue into games for us.

"We are working hard - I've seen a big change for us in that week off. But we need to be smarter, coming out after half-time and giving a penalty in our first set - you just can't do it at this level."

The Centurions were playing in front of fans for the first time in more than a year, with over 1,600 supporters in attendance for the match at the Leigh Sports Village.

"I thought our fans were outstanding," Duffy said.
"It was mad walking around the ground before the game and there was people there. The lads were buzzing after the warm-up and I think it showed in our first half."
