BURGLARS snatched jewellery of "sentimental" value from the home of an elderly woman.

Officers are investigating the burglary, which happened on Ashley Road, Hindley Green on the night of Thursday, May 27.

The burglars made entry at around 11.50pm, while the woman was sleeping.

The items stolen include one gold wedding ring described as plain on one side and a buckle on the other; one three- stone gold engagement ring; one plain gold watch from Beaverbrooks; one gold cocktail watch and one gold chain with a linked bracelet clip with an imitation lock.

Meanwhile, four gold rings were also taken; two gold crosses, with one on a thick chain and one on a thin chain; a silver ring, plain on one side with little purple stones; one gold broach with three little diamonds' one dress ring with three white diamonds and two blue stones and one gold necklace chain with two pink roses on.

Greater Manchester Police said: "These items are described as irreplaceable.

"If you have any information please share it with us so we can unite these items with the rightful owner."
