A new guide has been launched aimed at helping shoppers with autism feel more familiar when they visit Spinning Gate Shopping Centre in Leigh.

The free autism friendly guide will help customers in different stores and also assist them when using the centre’s faculties.

Spinning Gate’s cleaning team, members of security and management team have all completed autism awareness training courtesy of Wigan Council and have been officially recognised as Autism Friends.

The centre also provides music-free Mondays when the mall music is silenced to ensure a quieter shopping experience for people living with autism.

Leigh Journal:

Noise sensitivity can be an issue for people with autism with sounds being magnified and becoming distorted and muddled.

The new guide provides details about the stores, services and facilities so that shoppers with autism feel less daunted when visiting Spinning Gate Shopping Centre and it is available to download from the website and social media.

Karen Cox, centre manager, said: “Spinning Gate a shopping Centre is a proud and committed supporter of the initiative to drive awareness of autism.

“We have implemented some minor adjustments to help people living with autism enjoy a quieter shopping experience while in the centre with us.

“Our autism friendly guide is available as a free resource to help people understand the centre and the stores and facilities we have on site.”
