A round-up of cases heard by magistrates recently

A MAN who assaulted a woman and sent her a series of abusive text messages in June last year has been sentenced to do 150 hours of unpaid work. Scott Hanlon, aged 31, of Bright Street, Radcliffe, had initially denied committing the offences but changed his plea to guilty. He was ordered to participate in 30 days of a building better relationships programme plus 10 days of rehabilitation activities. A restraining order was made banning him from contacting his victim or going to Orchard Court, Bury.

MAGISTRATES have fined a woman after finding her guilty of causing actual bodily harm to another woman. Charlotte Womack, aged 28, of Kirkstall Gardens, Radcliffe, had denied committing the offence but was convicted following at trial at Manchester Magistrates’ Court. She was fined £120, ordered to participate in 10 days of rehabilitation activities and must pay her victim £750 in compensation.

A SHOPLIFTER who stole perfume, worth £366, from Harvey Nichols in Manchester on June 13 has been sentenced to a conditional discharge for 18 months. Harry Dean, aged 21, of Walmersley Road, Bury, pleaded guilty to theft and also admitted possessing cannabis. He was ordered to pay £184 in compensation to the store.

A THIEF who stole a woman’s purse in Radcliffe has been fined £100 and ordered to participate in 16 days of rehabilitation activities. Nina Tokarova, aged 35, of Seymour Court, Radcliffe, pleaded guilty to committing the offence on September 17, 2019. She was also ordered to pay her victim £65 in compensation.

MAGISTRATES have sentenced a man to do 120 hours of unpaid work after he pleaded guilty to using threatening or abusive behaviour towards a woman on June 15. Benjamin Jackson, aged 31, of Elterwater Close, Bury, was also ordered to pay his victim £200 in compensation.

A MAN allowed his home to be used for the production of cannabis and assaulted a police officer on New Year’s Day 2020. Oliver Robinson, aged 30, of Buller Street, Bury, initially denied committing the assault but then changed his plea to guilty to both offences. He was fined a total of £255 and was ordered to pay £100 in compensation to the officer.

MAGISTRATES have sentenced a man to a conditional discharge after he admitted destroying a chest of drawers belonging to Babergh Mid Suffolk Council on September 18 last year. Andrew Williamson, aged 22, of Toon Crescent, Brandlesholme, was ordered to pay £158 in compensation.

MAGISTRATES have ordered a man be electronically tagged after he admitted using threatening behaviour towards a police officer at Fairfield Hospital on June 15. Barry Carrington, aged 32, of Croft Lane, Bury, was sentenced to a 5pm to 5am curfew for 16 weeks.
