A DATE has been set for the trial of a man accused of murdering dad-of-two Robert Smethurst.

Judge Nicholas Dean QC, Recorder of Manchester, at Manchester Crown Court, set October 8 as the date for a plea and case preparation hearing. And February 28 was fixed as the provisional date any trial would start.

The hearing was done in the absence of Robert Owen Greenhalgh, 31, of no fixed address. who was arrested in Leigh last week in connection with Mr Smethurst's death.

Greenhalgh was charged on Saturday Mr Smethurst's murder, in the early hours of September 2.

Mr Smethurst, 36, was found unconscious in the Luxe Lounge bar and nightclub in Bradshawgate in Bolton town centre at around 1.30am.

He was treated by police and paramedics at the scene but died a short time later in hospital.
