FOLLOWING the success of Olympic silver medallist Keely Hodgkinson in 2021, we have featured some old pictures of the Leigh Harriers on our Looking Back page.

Here is another photograph featuring the Harriers, this time going back around 90 years to the late 1920s or early 1930s.

The photo shows Leigh Harriers runners in a two-mile track race at Belle Vue, Manchester in 1928 or 1930.

The starter is Albert E Hayman, of Leigh (right of centre) and the picture also includes Harold Platt, Olympic winner (Salford Harriers); behind him Arthur Bennett of Salford Harriers,; left of Harold is Edward R Atkinson of Leigh Harriers; behind Edward Jim Andrews; on Edward's left Leigh team captain and international cross country runner (1929) Richard Sutton (blurred).
