The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for thunderstorms covering central and southern parts of the UK - including Hereford.

Much of the UK will be affected by the heavy rain, thunderstorms and winds on Wednesday morning and this brief period could cause some disruption.

The warning is in place from 4am to 12pm on Wednesday October 20.

What does the Met Office say?

The Met Office yellow weather warning explained we can expect a few things.

  • There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds.
  • Spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures.
  • Where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to train and bus services.
  • There is a slight chance that power cuts could occur and other services to some homes and businesses could be lost.
  • There is a small chance of damage to trees by strong and gusty winds.

What should you do?

The Met Office has released some advice about how to stay safe during thunder and lightning storms.

They also recommend that you read their guidance on travelling in storms, rain and strong wind.
