QUEENS Park flies the flag as one of the country’s best parks

The park in Heaton is one of a record-breaking 2,127 green spaces to receive the prestigious Green Flag Award, as the scheme marks its Silver Jubilee.

The award is the international quality mark for parks and green spaces.

Bolton Council’s Executive Cabinet Member for Environmental Services, Cllr Nadim Muslim, said: “This is a fantastic achievement for everyone involved in maintaining Queens Park.

“During the pandemic we all came to realise how important our green spaces were for exercise and meeting family and friends safely.”

Green Flag Award Scheme Manager Paul Todd said: “I would like to congratulate everyone involved in making Queens Park worthy of a Green Flag Award.”

“To meet the requirements demanded by the scheme is testament to the hard work of the staff and volunteers who do so much to ensure that Queens Park has high standards of horticulture, safety and environmental management and is a place that supports people to live healthy lives.”

The Green Flag Award scheme recognises and rewards well-managed parks and green spaces, setting the benchmark standard for the management of green spaces across the United Kingdom and around the world.
