A CARE service has been praised by its elderly clients and their relatives for the consistency of care and kindness shown by carers during a recent inspection.

Home Instead provides care and companionship to older people in their own homes in and around Leigh.

The company was recently inspected by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), the independent regulator of health and adult social care in England, and all aspects of the care services offered were rated as ‘good’.

Home Instead Leigh was described as ‘safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led’.

Georgia Pennington, co-owner of Home Instead Leigh, said: “We’re delighted to have received such positive feedback from the CQC in this inspection. Our caregivers really are exceptional people who show compassion and empathy to the people they support. I’m incredibly proud of the positive impact that my team is having on the lives of our elderly clients and the wider community.”

Home Instead clients told the inspectors that they were supported in accessing their GP, their caregivers promote their independence and treat them with dignity and respect. Clients and their relatives were complimentary about caregivers and their kind-hearted ways. Caregivers were praised for helping clients retain independence and control over their lives.

A major factor recognised was the time and effort dedicated to planning personalised care packages, involving clients and their relatives in the care planning process, with regular reviews held to ensure care plans continue to meet clients’ needs. The report also highlighted that strong supportive relationships had been built between clients and caregivers, meaning clients received person-centred care as a result.

One client commented: “I am treated with such respect, we have plenty of time to do everything I need and if staff are finished with their jobs, we have a chat, which is really nice. I have had two different carers come and they are both so kind to me.”

Home Instead Leigh was also described as being well-led, and promoting openness and honesty in all its policies and procedures. Caregivers have close contact with clients’ relatives, who feel that caregivers are always open and honest. One relative commented: "If I ever need to contact the office, which is very rarely, I feel totally confident that I can discuss anything at all with confidence and it will be sorted"

Tom Pennington, co-owner of Home Instead Leigh, added: “It’s really important to us that our elderly clients do not feel socially isolated, and we look to match caregivers with people based on shared interests and hobbies. We also work hard to help clients with technology, so they can keep in touch with friends and relatives.”
