A NINETY-ONE-YEAR-OLD man has died after being knocked down in Hindley Green.

The Journal reported after two pensioners were hit by a car on Swan Lane on Monday evening, October 18.

Emergency services attended, and a 91-year-old man, and 89-year-old woman were taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The man has sadly died, while the woman has life-threatening injuries, police say.

Officers were called to Swan Lane just before 7pm on Monday 18 October to reports two pedestrians had been hit by a car.

The 91-year-old man passed away overnight (Thursday, October 21).

The 89-year-old woman remains in a critical condition.

A 22-year-old woman was arrested at the scene, and has been released under investigation.

Officers are continuing to investigate the circumstances around what happened, and are keen to speak to anyone who may have any information.

Police Constable Karl Horner from the Serious Collisions Investigations Unit said: "This was a tragic incident in which an elderly man has now sadly lost his life. Our thoughts are very much with his loved ones at this awful time.
