THE COMMUNITY of Atherton and Leigh came together to support a seven-year-old's homemade lemonade over the Christmas holidays, raising hundreds for Cancer Research UK.

Always wanting to do something for charity, Ella Shaw decided to use her dad's lemon tree to create a lemonade stand outside her home on Railway Street in Atherton, while also baking cakes and cookies for her neighbours to come and taste.

As Ella lost her great grandparents to cancer a few years ago, as well as having other family members who are now in remission, it was decided that the stand would raise as much money for Cancer Research UK as possible.

And while the youngster worked hard to squeeze the fresh lemons and bake her goodies, her mum Jade was busy promoting her stall online to encourage people to show their support.

So as the St Michael's Primary School pupil sat at her stall on a cold winters afternoon on Monday, January 3, tons of family members, friends and neighbours all came along to try Ella's tasty goodies and help her raise money for Cancer Research.

With people donating to Ella in person and online, she has raised an amazing £339 so far.

As Ella has autism, Jade said the support for her idea has been "overwhelming" as she has also been invited to create a second stall to sell at school on Friday, January 7 - hoping to raise even more money for charity.

Jade said: "It was all Ella's idea as she really wanted to do something for charity.

"She was freezing sat outside at her stall, but she was absolutely over the moon as everyone came to support her and raise so much money.

"Her headteacher also got in touch after seeing her online, and asked her to do the stall at school as she was really impressed with her."

"We're so proud of her!".
