SUSPECTS of a "stolen" car are reported to have fled the scene of a head on collision in Atherton in the early hours of this morning.
At around 5.30am, police were called to reports of a two car collision on Wigan Road in Atherton.
On arrival, officers found a Volkswagen Passat and a Nissan had collided.
The driver of the Nissan had suffered minor injuries, but the occupants of the Passat, which is believed to be stolen, had left the scene.
The incident, which occurred between Lovers Lane and Atherleigh Way, was closed for more than two hours as officers attended the scene.
The road later re-opened but the disruption is reported to have resulted in slow traffic afterwards.
Greater Manchester Police confirmed the details of the crash and said that enquiries are ongoing, with no arrests made at present.
