CENTURIONS head coach Adrian Lam reckons in Tom Amone Leigh have recruited the new Fuifui Moimoi.

Amone didn’t score in Leigh’s 50-4 Championship opening win over Whitehaven last Sunday.

But the 25-year-old ex-South Sydney and Wests Tigers prop came off the bench to make an outstanding first impression.

And after Amone’s destructive debut, Lam is excited about unleashing him on other unsuspecting defences starting at Featherstone in Monday’s televised clash of the Championship Titans. (kick-off 7.45pm)

“The crowd saw what Tom can bring to us,” said Lam. “It is going to take him three to four weeks to settle into the style we play.

“But in a month’s time I hope he will be twice the player he is now. I am pretty excited about that.”

Team mate Tom Nisbet, who touched down twice in Leigh’s encouraging start to life again outside the top tier, said of Amone: “He tackles hard and runs like a little bull.”

Featherstone opened their Championship season with a 30-12 win at York on Monday-the first fixture of Premier Sports new coverage.

Former Leigh star, Craig Hall, the reigning Championship player of the year, scored one of Rovers’ five tries and kicked four goals.

Fev didn’t include star signing and one-time Centurions’ target, Joey Leilua, or Dane Chisholm though both could feature on Monday.

“Leigh fans will have seen there is a team there that is going to be competitive,” added Lam of victory over Whitehaven.

“Our intent was good our defence was pretty solid, and we also played some decent rugby.”

Nene Macdonald’s hat-trick was another stand out feature of the nine-try win.

“I am pleased for Nene and pleased for the fans who have seen a try scorer like this who has come to the club. Hopefully, he is going to take our attack to another level.”

St Helens loanee Nisbet too was impressive while being impressed himself with his new surroundings.

“I enjoy being with the lads; they are really warm people,” he said. They are more like close friends than team mates.”

On his impending first appearance at the Millennium Stadium he laughed: “I have been told nothing but good things about Fev.”

*Lam has returned to former club Wigan to sign back row/centre James McDonnell on a month’s loan.

McDonnell scored the Warriors’ 2021 try of the season.
