IMPROVEMENTS will be made to make Pennington Flash a more inviting place to children and young people, with residents asked to help with new designs.

A new woodland play area will be built at Pennington Flash, which was been developed following feedback from young people.

Designed to complement the woodland's surroundings, features will be inclusive play equipment suitable for those under 5 years old and up to 11.

After the input from young people, further visitors are now being asked to have their say on the designs.

Including the local community in the new designs highlights a commitment, the council believes, to improving Leigh's green spaces and facilities at the Nature Reserve.

Councillor Chris Ready, cabinet member for leisure at Wigan Council, welcomed the proposals, commenting:

“Wigan Council is committed to delivering on our promises for the Believe in Leigh Fund based on the top three priorities decided by residents.

"One of those priorities was improving the facilities at Pennington Flash Nature Reserve and I am pleased that work is already well underway with footpaths resurfaced, new signage on site and work on the car parks ongoing.

"In June the café will arrive on site before opening to the public later this year.

“This new play area is just one of the many improvements taking place at the reserve he last piece of the jigsaw in making Pennington Flash a place where families can go for a day out and I’m sure they will be as pleased as I am with the proposals.”
