A FESTIVAL organised to coincide with the Jubilee celebrations was enjoyed by a host of rugby players, local people, and even James Grundy MP.

While Leigh RUFC has held annual beer festivals in the past, this year's four-day event was signalled as the start of something new; offering a variety of activities to the entire community.

From Thursday, June 2 to Sunday, June 5, residents of all ages attended the Hand Lane festival, entertained with mixed ability rugby matches, funfairs and live entertainment, as well as having a wide range of food and drink on offer.

All the proceeds raised from the festival will go towards improving the club's sporting facilities and provide the foundation for similar events in the future.

Canaan Thomas, one of the event organisers, said: "The festival was well attended by a mix of people across the four days and everyone seemed to really enjoy it.

"It was really good to see it all come together after working hard to open the festival up and make it more inclusive for everyone.

"It was belting really and we had belting weather on most of the days too."
