THIS photograph from the local archives which we recently featured in the Journal featuring shopworkers has generated a response from one reader who believes her father may be depicted.

The photograph depicts three shopworker at the Grocery Department of the Leigh Friendly Co-operative Society, in Leigh.

Archive records do not state what year the picture was taken.

Lorraine Bedson emailed in to say: “Regarding the photo of the grocers. We are not entirely sure but the guy in the middle looks like our dad, Kenneth Hewitt.

“He was manager of the Co-op shop on the corner of Kirkhall Lane, although if it is before the late 1950s early 1960s then it’s probably not him.”

Can anyone shed any light on when the picture was taken, and if Lorraine’s dad is among those featured?
