CHARITABLE organisations will have the opportunity to win a share of £10,000 at a 'Dragon's Den' event in Leigh in September.

Organised by Leigh Rotary Club, local organisations will pitch their project to three independent 'dragons' on how they would re-invest the money back into the local community.

Hearing pitches from organisations who struggle to obtain funds or want to expand their community projects, the dragons will decide how best to split the £10,000 to the most worthy causes.

With a 90-year history in Leigh, the local Rotary club has raised around £1.5 million which has predominantly been donated to local community causes.

More recently, the group has raised money for Rotary clubs in Romania and Ukraine through their Brass Band Concert at the Leigh RUFC festival.

Donations are also collected at the Rotary club's popular Santa Sleigh tour over Christmastime, which are then put back into community projects such as the Dragon's Den event.

With cheques planned to be awarded on the night, this will enable the successful organisations to get to work on their community projects straight away.

The Dragon's Den event will take place on Sunday, September 18 at Leigh Masonic Hall.

Any interested organisation - who must be from Leigh or Lowton and have a Constitution or a registered charity status - must apply for submission by Tuesday, August 5.
