AN annual celebration of the Armed Forces community returns this week with residents encouraged to show their support.

The 2022 Armed Forces Day schedule includes a traditional parade through Leigh town centre alongside a day of free family entertainment.

Leigh’s Civic Square will host a range of stalls, stages and attractions from 10am to 4pm on Saturday, June 25. The parade takes place at 11am.

Councillor Yvonne Klieve, cabinet lead member for Armed Forces and Veterans, said: “This is always an important day in the calendar and we’re looking forward to seeing everything that’s planned.

“It’s a fantastic way for us to show our support and say thank you to our veterans, service personnel and the whole community.”

The parade will be led by Britain Army Reserve regiment The Queen’s Own Yeomanry accompanied by Tyldesley Brass Band.

The circular route will start and finish from Civic Square, progressing through Leigh town centre.

It will start at 11am for a ceremonial inspection by the Mayor of Wigan Borough, Councillor Marie Morgan.

A fun-fair and community stalls will run throughout the day with musical entertainment from the borough’s TMP College. A display of vintage vehicles will also be on show.

Councillor Klieve added: “We are encouraging everyone in the borough to turn out as there is something on offer for all the family.”
