IN a town with plenty of National Silverware for its rugby league team St Helens Walking Football Club is looking to earn its own National Cup recognition with a trip to Lilleshall National Sports Centre in September.

Walking Football is one of the fastest growing sports worldwide, played by men and women of all ages without the pain, discomfort or fear of injury that comes with the regular game.

St Helens Walking Club started in 2015 and has steadily progressed to now have over 50 members attending their Monday morning and Wednesday evening sessions.

The club plays to WFA Rules for maximum safety which means the club's oldest player (82) can play alongside much younger members.

The club also has five ladies who play alongside the men and recently welcomed a young lady who is an amputee.

They have secured funding to introduce an impairment session to run alongside the sessions.

On the pitch SHWFC Over 65s team has just won the North West Regional Cup Final which means Saints will now compete in the last eight of the WFA National Cup competition.

Saints battled to beat Brunswick Old Boys in Liverpool with Tom Parr completing a hat trick to seal the victory.
