AN efficient Hyde United took advantage of a substandard Atherton Collieries performance, claiming a 1-0 win at the Skuna Stadium.

Brad Roscoe converted from a scrappy corner after ten minutes of play, giving the Tigers a deserved lead following a good start to the game.

The Tigers could have doubled their lead after half an hour. Midfield dynamo Liam Tongue curled an impressive outside-of-the-box effort narrowly onto the woodwork.

There were bizarre calls for a red card towards the end of the first half. A standard shoulder-to-shoulder tussle for the ball in the centre circle was greatly exaggerated by ex-Colls Callum Spooner, provoking the ire of the travelling Tigers faithful.

Following a prolonged stoppage, commonsense eventually prevailed with the referee brushing away claims of malice.

The Black & Whites grew into the game towards the end of the first half, though Hyde would have considered themselves unfortunate not to have a wider advantage at this stage.

The second half was a scrappy affair. Colls took a foothold of possession early on and retained the ball throughout the half but failed to make it count, with the visitors happy to defend their lead.

Colls’ Luke Nicholls offered the brightest spark with his late cameo appearance, adding a notable injection of pace and energy into the match.

The result was secured when a late injury reduced Colls to 10 men, putting the result beyond any lingering doubt.

Colls visit Warrington Town on Tuesday, host Matlock Town on Saturday and then head to Lancaster City on bank holiday Monday.
