A GREYHOUND rescue centre in Tyldesley has been recognised for its decade of rehoming dogs with a national award.

Founded in 2013, Makants Greyhound Rescue was created to rescue and rehabilitate retired and injured greyhounds, and rehome them to owners who can provide the love and care they require.

Located on Mort Lane, Tyldesley, staff and volunteers care for and walk greyounds from their kennels every day of the year, until they are rehomed to a loving family.

Volunteers also take their greyhounds on visits to Care Homes and schools and youth groups, as well as the Christmas light switch on in Tyldesley; becoming a well-respected group in the community.

Caring for up to 17 greyhounds at any one time, Makants' work involves a lot of food, supplies, and vet bills so the centre became a registered charity in 2015 to help fund the project.

Aware of the care Makants have provided for the past ten years, which includes rehoming around 600 greyhounds, John Burns, MBE and founder of Burns Pet Nutrition, visited the centre last month.

Mr Burns said he is extremely passionate about supporting and giving back to charity and the community, and presented Makants with a plaque after choosing them as the business' 'Charity of the Year'.

Burns Pet Nutrition will now work alongside Makants to support the Tyldesley Greyhound centre throughout the year, raising awareness of the charity and promoting it to a wider audience.

Siobhan Hoppley, founder of the Tyldesley-based rescue centre said: "Makants are looking forward to working with Burns Pet Nutrition over the coming year and, with their support, we believe we can help even more greyhounds into homes".
