Councillor Chris Ready, Wigan Council’s cabinet member for communities, said: “We’re thrilled that the Turnpike Gallery is preparing to throw its doors wide open once again for the general public to visit and enjoy the OPEN exhibition.

“It’s brilliant to see artwork from both established artists and those who are just starting out and presenting their art in public for the first time.”

Running until Saturday, March 18, there will also be free hands-on activities for visitors, as well as a series of artist talks and opportunities for school workshops.

Coun Ready added: “The Turnpike Gallery’s OPEN exhibition builds on the amazing work of the council to deliver its cultural manifesto, ‘The Fire Within’.

“The exhibition supports the cultural manifesto theme 'every community needs a stage' and Leigh is so lucky to have such a great asset within the heart of the community to showcase our local talent."

The Turnpike Gallery has nurtured local talent over the past 50 years, bringing both national and international artists to Leigh.
