THERE'S one place to start this month; what a few weeks we have before us with the town of Leigh off to Wem-ber-Leigh!

It’s a fantastic achievement for Adrian Lam’s side to reach their first Challenge Cup final since 1971 and they have the opportunity to cement their place in the club’s history books.

On behalf of us all at Wigan Council I would like to wish the best of luck to Adrian Lam, Derek Beaumont and everyone associated with the Leopards for the game.

And to all of the fans travelling down to London, enjoy the experience with your friends and family as the 2023 season is shaping up to be a famous one.

- Another date for the diary is the return of the popular Proms in the Park, set for Pennington Hall Park on Saturday, September 9.

Tyldesley Brass Band will provide the pomp and ceremony with traditional singalong anthems such as Land of Hope and Glory and Jerusalem with families encouraged to bring along their picnics, wave their Union flags and enjoy the show.

- Now the summer holidays have arrived, I would encourage families to visit the new play area at Pennington Flash that has recently opened.

The visitor’s centre, The Hide café and the play facilities are now open following our significant investment at the site and it’s the ideal time to visit as there’s something on offer for all the family.

As part of our Here for You campaign, we’ve also compiled a list of low-cost or free activities to keep you and the family busy throughout the summer.

You can view the list at: wigan.gov.uk/HereForYou.
