A TEENAGE boy has died following an incident on the M6.
Cheshire Police officers were called to the motorway in Warrington last night after safety concerns were raised.
Police have now confirmed a teenage boy died at the scene close to junction 21 at Woolston.
A spokesperson for the force said: "Officers were called at 9.40pm on Thursday (August 17) to the M6 at J21 following reports of a concern for safety of a teenage boy.
"Sadly, despite best efforts, the teenager passed away at the scene.
"A full road closure was put in place while emergency services were in attendance."
Traffic was stopped on the M6 northbound for several hours, with the southbound carriageway blocked.
Motorists on the M6 southbound were released shortly after 11pm with those on the northbound road still being released come 2am.
The road was fully reopened, without delays, at around 5.30am this morning (August 18).
North West Ambulance Service and Cheshire Fire have been contacted for more information.
