AN opticians is gearing up for Christmas with a gift appeal to help adults and children in need over the festive season.

The fundraiser will provide gifts for underprivileged children in difficult circumstances, as well as adults experiencing poverty nationwide.

Taking place throughout November and December, the campaign will see team members from Specsavers Leigh donating brand-new toys and gifts for newborns all the way up to adults.

Customers are also being encouraged to take part by either donating unused or unopened toys or cash.

Lucy Johnson, store merchandiser at Specsavers Leigh, said: "I love Christmas and what better way to kick off the festive season than helping people get their Christmas wishes.

"I found out about the Christmas toy campaign through a fellow colleague and thought it would be great for the store to get involved.

"I love that the campaign supports not only children but adults and families too, as everyone deserves their Christmas wish to be granted and I'm so happy that we’re able to help.

"Each tag has a gift that people who are supported by the participating charities have wished for.

"Gifts include blankets, socks, chocolates, children's clothing, and toiletries, which can often be the things we take for granted when we receive them ourselves.

"Seeing the simplest of gifts being wished for made me want to get involved and help make these wishes come true, with the help of my colleagues."

The toy appeal is organised by Dunelm Community’s ‘Deliver Joy’ campaign, which provides Christmas gifts for underprivileged children in difficult circumstances.
