Celebrating 40 years of Wigan & Leigh Hospice, the ball was also organised to raise some vital funds after the hospice is experiencing a funding crisis with an estimated deficit of £1million.

Caring for patients in palliative care for four decades, the hospice needs to raise around £12,000 every day just to keep its services going, as two-thirds of its funds need to be generated through its charity shops, lottery, and fundraising.

With the DW Stadium ball helping the hospice with a huge fundraising sum of £45k, it was considered a great success for all involved.

Special guests included Mayoress Samantha Lloyd, members of the Wigan Council as well as Wigan Warriors players Tyler Dupree and Tiaki Chan.

The evening’s entertainment included music from local singer Annabelle Mather, Olivia Garcia from The X Factor 2016 and local favourite Tom Byrom & The Players Club.

Chief Executive of Wigan & Leigh Hospice, Jo Carby, said: “There are very few people in Wigan & Leigh who won’t know someone who has been supported by the hospice.

"Our services are special and that’s why it’s so important we protect them.

“We are so grateful to everyone who came along to the ball and helped us to raise such a phenomenal amount of money. Without this support we simple wouldn’t exist.”
