AREAS of Leigh have been issued with a flood alert for the remainder of the weekend.

Imposed by the Environment Agency, the flood alert is for the River Glaze catchment.

It came into effect this afternoon, Saturday, and covers numerous areas of Leigh and surrounding areas.

The flood alert reads: “Rainfall is forecast across the Glaze catchment throughout Saturday and into Sunday.

“The heaviest of the rain will occur early this evening, Saturday, from around 5pm until around midnight.

“Flooding of low-lying land and roads is possible from around 9.30pm this evening.

“Our duty officers are closely monitoring the situation and will update you when the forecast changes.”

It comes after the Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for today, with this coming into effect from 9am and remaining in place through to 11.45pm this evening.
