A SECTION of the M57 motorway has been closed this afternoon (Sunday, February 4) for emergency roadworks.
At around 1.45pm, National Highways North-West posted on X (formerly known as Twitter) that part of the M57 northbound between junction four at Bootle and junction five at St Helens had been closed.
The closure is "due to central reservation barrier damage requiring immediate repair."
One lane (of 2) is also closed southbound past the works.
Contractors are on scene with traffic officers assisting with emergency strategic closures.
Diversion Route:
Road users are advised to follow the solid square diversion symbol on road signs:
Leave the M57 north at J4
At the B5194/M57 J4 Rbt, take the third exit onto the A5207 north
At the A5207/A580 Jct, turn left onto the A580 westbound and follow for 1 mile.
At the A580/M57 J5 link , turn left onto the M57 north and re-join the M57.
