Long delays are being reported in Ellesmere Port this morning after a vehicle has overturned on the M53 motorway.

The incident happened earlier today (Wednesday, April 17) on the southbound carriageway, between Junctions 10 (A5117/Little Stanney) and 11 (M56 Interchange).

Traffic monitoring service Inrix reports that all traffic has been stopped since 8.20am, and there is congestion building as far back as Junction 5 (Eastham), causing travel delays in excess of 40 minutes.

Highways North West reports that emergency services and traffic officers are at the scene of the incident.

Motorists are urged to avoid the area and seek alternate routes if possible.
