A charity football match in Clitheroe raised thousands for Alder Hey Children's Hospital.

The game at Rimington FC was organised by Jack Fielding whose son Elliott has recently been treated at the hospital. Jack was helped by Steve Wharton, a former Rimington FC player, to put on the event.

Alder Hey FC beat Monday Night Dads 5-3 in the game which was attended by family and friends.

The Alder Hey FC team is made up of friends and former footballing teammates of Jack, some of whose own children have been treated at Alder Hey. They decided to name their team Alder Hey FC in tribute to the hospital and the staff for whom they now raise funds through various events and tasks.

The Monday Night Dads is a group of fathers whose daughters all play for Clitheroe Wolves Junior Football Club. Whilst watching their daughters play they decided to get together and form a seven-a-side team in 2023.

The total raised on the day exceeded £3,730 with some money still to be collected. This will be added to the £4,141 which has already been donated for another fundraiser in July.

Organisers wished to thank everyone who helped to organise the event including Rimington FC, and their chairman Terry Braithwaite for hosting the game.

There was also a mention for Stonebakers whose owners Matt Bretherton and Dave Johnson agreed to provide freshly made wood-fired pizzas for crowds, and Magic Mirror whose owner Lauren provided face-painting for the children.
