Drivers are being urged to avoid the main road through Staverton when Wiltshire Council contractors start resurfacing the carriageway next month.

The drainage gullies on the B3105 have been cleaned to remove litter before the council begins the resurfacing and associated maintenance works on Tuesday, May 7.

The resurfacing is scheduled for completion by Friday, May 31 and will involve night-time road closures from 7pm to midnight.

The resurfacing is expected to affect the entire carriageway of the road from its junction with Hammond Way to its junction with the B3107 Bradford Road.

Ernie Clark, the chairman of Hilperton Parish Council, said: “To minimise disruption, the work will be completed at night and in three phases.

“The first phase, from Horse Road to Hammond Way, will take place from Tuesday 7 May to Friday 10 May and the road will be closed from 7pm-midnight to minimise disruption for local residents.

“Phase two, from Hammond Way to the B3106, just over the bridge, will take place from Monday 13 May until Thursday 16 May, with the closure once again in place from 7pm-midnight to keep disruption to a minimum.

“Phase three will see the teams working from Friday 17 May to Friday 24 May, 7pm to 6am, from the B3106 to the junction with Bradford Road.

Finally, from Monday 27 May to Friday 31 May, the council will finish off the project by adjusting ironworks and installing new road markings. The road will be closed from 7pm to midnight for these works.”

The council announced in July last year that it would carry out the work this spring following the conclusion of Wessex Water’s extensive works to replace main pipes.

The utility company spent around four months last year replacing the former cast iron water mains pipes on the B3105 between the slipway at Staverton bridge and School Lane.

The works began on July 26 and were completed in early December ahead of schedule. They will provide a more reliable and improved water source for the local area for many years to come.

Back in July, Wiltshire Council leader Cllr Richard Clewer said:  “We'll do our best to minimise disruption.

“However, we don't yet know the length and timing of any road closure, as this will depend on what our engineers discover about the road surface when they examine Wessex Water's excavations.

“We apologise in advance for any inconvenience this may cause people.”
