Search the Public Notice PortalA PLAN to transform an office into a school for children unable to remain in mainstream education has been withdrawn.
Intervention Academy Ltd sought to convert the office at 22 Walmesley Road, Leigh, into an educational facility.
The planned educational provision was aimed at young people aged 11–16 and post-16 students.
Their intention was to assist these students in reaching their full potential.
The application stated that the property, a single-storey building with parking for 15 cars, used to be a school.
The building is located on a one-way street behind a dual primary school and faces another primary school.
If approved, the academy said it would have operated during school term time only, from 8.30am until 8.30pm, with a maximum number of 20 students.
It stated it would have started with three members of staff, but the move to the Walmesley Road site would have allowed the employment of an additional eight staff members.
Students were to be transported by academy staff to and from the premises, with all vehicles parked in the parking lot on the site, thus ensuring no cars are parked on the street.
Internal and external alterations to the property would not have been necessary due to the change of use.
The noise impact was anticipated to be minimal, and no contamination risks were expected from the change of use.
Wigan Council received the application on November 25, 2025, and it was validated on December 5, 2025.
The planning application was officially withdrawn on December 23, 2025.
The letter from the planning authority confirmed that "This application has subsequently been withdrawn and my records amended accordingly."
The scope of the proposed change, alongside the mitigation strategies for potential traffic, noise, and contamination impacts, were outlined in the prior notice application.
