Bob the cob has lived most of his nearly three decades at Hindley’s Farm off Wigan Road in Atherton and has grazed on the land since he was a foal but is now at risk of losing his home due to industrial development plans by Peel Land Group.
Diane Orrell, who has cared for 28-year-old Bob for 24 years, said: "I am so worried about what is going to happen.
"He has only really known this as his home and now they are threatening to take it away from him and his friends."
Ms Orrell described the special bond she shares with Bob and the challenges they've overcome together.
She said: "I'm so lucky to still have him as he had laminitis really badly a few years ago.
"It cost me thousands to get him back right with the help of a great vet and brilliant blacksmith and lots of hard work.
"I was going to the farm crying, coming home crying, worrying sick. We got him through it."
Thanks to a controlled diet, special shoes, and dedicated care, Bob recovered.
Ms Orrell said: "He is such a character with not a bad bone in his body.
"Everyone loves Bob.
"All the children have grown up with him, and their first words are usually Mum, Dad or Bob."
She moved 18 years ago to be closer to Bob and said she has cherished taking him for walks in the surrounding countryside ever since.
Ms Orrell said Bob was even a guest at her wedding in 2005.
