A WET start to the weekend is expected for Leigh, with a mix of rain and sunshine.

Friday will begin with light rain for much of the morning, with high probabilities of rain (around 80 to 95 per cent) from roughly 6am through late morning.

The weather is expected to improve later, turning drier and brighter into the afternoon and evening.

Temperatures will be around 8 to 11C during the day, dipping to about 3 to 5C overnight.

However, it will feel closer to 4 to 8C in the breeze.

The wind will be mainly southerly at 6 to 14mph, gusting up to about 25mph.

Saturday will be a cool, windy day with sunny intervals and scattered showers.

Daytime highs will be near 9C, with lows around 3 to 4C.

The strong breeze will make it feel close to freezing early and late.

The morning will be mainly dry very early, with rain chances building to about 50 to 70 per cent from mid-morning as showers push through.

The afternoon and evening will see on-and-off showers with plenty of bright spells.

Probabilities will mostly be 30 to 60 per cent, so there will be decent dry windows between showers.

South-westerly winds will be around 17 to 21mph, gusting up to roughly 40mph, especially in exposed areas.

Sunday will be a milder but overcast day with spells of light to moderate rain and brisk southerly winds.

Temperatures will be around 11C by day,  and 6C overnight.

Despite the higher reading, it will still feel nearer 7 to 8C in the wind.

Patchy light rain is possible from around dawn, with probabilities climbing to 70 to 80 per cent late morning through the afternoon before slowly easing later on.

The wind will be southerly to south-westerly 12 to 21mph with gusts into the upper-30s to around 40mph at times.

The weekend will be cool on Friday and Saturday, turning a touch milder on Sunday but often feeling chilly in the wind.

Saturday offers the best chance of dry outdoor slots between showers.

Pollen levels remain low and visibility is generally good outside of heavier showers.
