THE Met Office has forecast a mixed weekend for Leigh, with rain, sunshine, and cooler temperatures.

Friday will start with a band of light rain, with chances of precipitation rising to between 60 and 90 per cent from about 8am until early afternoon.

The rain is expected to ease later in the day, with clearer and drier conditions developing in the late afternoon and early evening.

Daytime temperatures will peak at about 16C, falling to around 7C overnight.

Winds will be mainly from the south at roughly 12 to 15mph, with gusts locally close to 30mph around showers.

Saturday's forecast

Saturday will be brighter overall, with sunny intervals and just a scattering of showers.

Temperatures will reach about 13C by day and drop to around 4C overnight.

Rain probabilities will hover near 20 to 30 per cent from early morning through the middle of the day, falling back towards 10 per cent or less later on.

Winds will generally be south to south-westerly at 10 to 13mph, with gusts up to the mid-20s mph, strongest in any showers.

The best dry and bright window for outdoor plans looks to be from mid-afternoon into the early evening.

Sunday's forecast

Sunday will be cooler but mostly dry, with sunny intervals and only a very small risk of a light shower.

The Met Office suggests a daytime high close to 12C and an overnight minimum around 4C.

Rain chances will stay low, mainly below 10 per cent for much of the day, only briefly nudging a little higher late afternoon and evening.

Winds will be light, generally from an easterly or south-easterly direction at about 5 to 10mph, and there are no significant gusts flagged.

There should be decent sunny intervals, especially through the morning and early afternoon, giving another reasonable slot for outdoor activities.

Overall, temperatures in Leigh will start on the mild side on Friday, then slip back a little into the low to mid-teens Celsius through Saturday and Sunday.

Friday is expected to be the wettest day, with a prolonged spell of rain through the morning and early afternoon, while Saturday and Sunday are much drier with just isolated showers.

The windiest period will be Friday, when southerly winds and gusts approach 30mph, whereas the rest of the weekend will see only light to moderate breezes.

Pollen levels are indicated as low to moderate over the period, and visibility is generally good to very good outside any heavier showers.
