WITH the weather getting nicer and the days getting longer, why not spend some time outdoors?
This scenic 12-mile countryside walk from Lymm to Leigh offers a mix of greenery and local pubs.
The journey begins at Lymm Cross, venturing across the Trans Pennine Trail and through the flat Cheshire plain, with a crossing at the Warburton Toll Bridge.
This bridge, rising 31 metres above sea level, is the highest point on the route.
Following this, the path leads through open fields and the Glazebrook Trail at Cadishead, offering wide, picturesque views, especially on sunny days.
The trail crosses the M62 and the two main Liverpool to Manchester railway lines.
Glaze Brook provides a pleasant backdrop along the way, where walkers can take a break on its left bank.
In the hamlet of Glazebury, the George & Dragon pub offers a rest stop with a large beer garden.
The trail then crosses the East Lancs Road, heading towards Leigh town centre along Pennington Brook and past Christ Church.
The terrain on this walk is mostly flat but some parts may be muddy, making it moderately challenging.
Post-walk, Leigh provides a variety of refreshment options.
The Waterside, near the bus station, boasts large indoor and outdoor areas, while the George & Dragon, which has a great atmosphere, is better suited for smaller groups.
Walkers are encouraged to plan their journey for a day with favourable weather, to fully appreciate the expansive views and outdoor settings.
