DRAGONS’ Den star Duncan Bannatyne has thrown his support behind a parliamentary hopeful.

Mr Bannatyne has endorsed Wigan businesswoman Rebecca Shepherd, Restore Britain’s candidate for Makerfield, in the upcoming by-election.

Ms Shepherd said: "Duncan’s support means a great deal.

"He’s a self-made businessman who built everything from scratch, Duncan knows what it takes to create jobs and grow a local economy.

"I’m proud to have his backing as I fight for safer streets, thriving high streets and a better deal for Makerfield families."

Rupert Lowe MP, leader of Restore Britain, said: "Duncan’s support shows that real business people are getting behind Rebecca.

"She’s the right person to fight for Makerfield and put local people first."

The by-election was triggered by the resignation of Labour MP Josh Simmons, with Andy Burnham standing as Labour’s candidate.

Reform UK have confirmed that Robert Kenyon, a local plumber, will stand as their candidate.

The by-election will take place Thursday, June 18.
