THE Met Office has forecast a mostly cloudy, cool, and damp weekend for Leigh.

Friday will be dominated by cloud cover, with only brief brighter spells.

Daytime temperatures are expected to peak at around 17C, dropping to a minimum of 11C at night.

Rainfall probabilities will range between 20 and 60 per cent throughout the day, with higher chances in the morning and late afternoon into the evening.

This suggests on-and-off light showers rather than persistent heavy rain.

Winds will generally be south-westerly, around 7 to 12mph, with gusts up to 30mph, making it feel slightly cooler in exposed spots.

Saturday will see light rain on and off, with a similar cool feel.

Daytime temperatures will be close to 18C, with an overnight minimum again around 11C.

Rain chances will be high through the morning, mostly in the 70 to 80 per cent range at 6am to 9am, easing a little but still often 50 to 60 per cent into the afternoon and early evening.

Winds will remain from a south-westerly or westerly direction at roughly 9 to 14mph, with gusts up to about 30mph.

Cloud cover will remain large, though there may be a few brief brighter slots later in the afternoon and early evening.

Sunday will stay mostly cloudy but will be slightly milder.

The forecast high is around 20C, with an overnight low near 12C.

Rain probabilities will hover mostly around 30 to 40 per cent through the morning and afternoon, so there is still a risk of light showers but with a greater chance of longer dry spells compared with Saturday.

Winds will generally be from the south or south-west at about 10 to 13mph, with a maximum gust near 27mph.

With more dry intervals, Sunday afternoon currently looks the best option for any outdoor plans locally, even though sunshine will be limited.

Temperatures will stay fairly steady across the three days, on the cool side on Friday and Saturday, then turning a little milder by Sunday.

The wettest periods are most likely on Saturday morning and again at times later in the day, with Friday bringing scattered showers and Sunday seeing fewer, lighter showers.

The breeziest conditions will be on Friday and Saturday when gusts push towards 30mph, though winds are not expected to be strong enough to cause significant disruption.

The Met Office also flag high pollen levels on Friday and Sunday and low levels on Saturday, and visibility should generally be good outside of any heavier showers.
