A SPLASH of colour is helping to raise vital funds and inspire a borough-wide wave of support.

Pupils at Hindley All Saints Primary School have raised more than £6,300 for Turn Wigan Purple, a fundraising campaign in support of Wigan & Leigh Hospice.

Lindsey Butler, fundraising and community engagement manager at the hospice, said: "The Hindley All Saints colour run has raised an incredible total of £6,339 so far, with some funds still to be collected, which is a fantastic achievement.

"We're really hoping that this shows everyone how much fun Turn Wigan Purple can be and that lots more people follow suit and take part on 9 July."

Turn Wigan Purple is an annual campaign that invites people across Wigan and Leigh to wear purple and make a donation to the hospice.

On Thursday, July 9, schools, businesses, pubs, community groups, and individuals are encouraged to join in and show their support.

The funds raised will help Wigan & Leigh Hospice continue providing care for people with life-limiting illnesses, both at its Inpatient Unit and across the Wigan borough.

Ms Butler said: "Schools, businesses, pubs, community groups: Everyone is invited to join in, wear purple and support the hospice.

"Let’s see how much we can raise together."

Hindley All Saints launched this year’s campaign early with a colour run, raising more than £6,000 and bringing energy and excitement to the fundraising effort.

Wigan & Leigh Hospice has delivered specialist care and support for more than 40 years and relies heavily on community fundraising to continue its work.

Anyone wishing to take part in Turn Wigan Purple can register at www.wlh.org.uk or email fundraising@wlh.org.uk.

The hospice team hopes the early success of the school’s fundraiser will inspire even more people to get involved.

The public is invited to "wear something purple" and make a donation on July 9.
