A STEP back in time is on offer at a heritage site with a 1940s-themed weekend of nostalgia and family fun.

Damhouse in Astley, a Grade II-listed building managed by the Morts Astley Heritage Trust, will host the immersive event on Saturday, June 20 and Sunday, June 21.

The weekend will feature visitors in period costume, historic vehicles, and a variety of vintage stalls.

Katie Scotton, manager at Damhouse, said: "The 1940s weekend was very popular last year and we hope to have the same success this year as it will help us raise valuable funds to maintain the house and keep the grounds safe for continued public use."

A full programme of activities is planned, including music from the era, guided tours of the historic house, and appearances by re-enactors.

Visitors are encouraged to dress in 1940s attire, with a best-dressed competition taking place on both days.

Ms Scotton said: "The variety of activities on offer should appeal to people of all ages and visitors are more than welcome to dress up to enter the spirit of the weekend, with a best dressed competition being held each day."

A Winston Churchill impersonator will deliver rousing speeches on Sunday, June 21, adding to the wartime atmosphere.

Traditional games and an obstacle course will keep children entertained, while refreshments will be available throughout the day.

Damhouse, dating back to the 1500s, has served as a manor house, hospital administration block, and now as a heritage site.

Entry to the event is free.

Activities will run from 11am to 5pm on Saturday, and from 10am to 4pm on Sunday at Damhouse, Astley Hall Drive, M29 7TX.

There is no parking on site, but free parking will be available at St Stephen’s Primary School playing fields, via Princes Avenue.
