THE Met Office has issued an amber warning for extreme heat in Leigh on Friday.

Friday will see temperatures peak at 33C, with a minimum of 17C overnight.

The heat will be most intense in the afternoon, with very high pollen levels.

A few light showers are expected early in the morning, with a 60 per cent chance at 6am, dropping to 10–20 per cent later.

Winds will be light south-easterlies at 4–11mph, with maximum gusts around 25mph.

Cloud cover will vary, providing bright or sunny intervals throughout the day.

The amber warning for extreme heat is in force from midnight to 11.59pm on Friday.

This signals a high likelihood of impacts such as heat-related illness, particularly for vulnerable people, and potential disruption to outdoor events or transport.

The best time for any necessary outdoor activity is early morning before temperatures climb rapidly through the high twenties by late morning.

Saturday will remain very warm, with a forecast maximum of around 27C by mid-afternoon.

The morning looks largely dry, but the risk of showers increases in the afternoon, with probabilities rising to around 30–40 per cent from about 1–5pm.

Winds will be light to moderate, mainly from the south or south-east at about 8–13mph, with gusts up to around 27mph.

Cloud amounts will vary, but sunny intervals are expected for much of the day.

Sunday will be noticeably cooler and fresher, with a daytime high near 20C.

Rainfall is more likely, particularly in the morning, with rain chances around 40–50 per cent from 6–10am, before gradually easing to 10–20 per cent into the afternoon and evening.

Winds will be a little stronger than on Friday and Saturday, mainly south-westerly at 9–14mph, with gusts up to around 29mph.

Skies will generally be more overcast than earlier in the weekend, with a lot of cloud and only limited sunny intervals breaking through.

Pollen levels are flagged as very high on Friday and high on Saturday and Sunday, so hay fever sufferers are likely to notice symptoms throughout the weekend, particularly during the warmer, brighter spells.
