A PUB has moved to stop parents from using its car park at school drop-off and pick-up times.

The Church Inn in Lowton says that the reason behind the decision is a recent incident that involved staff being verbally abused in a ‘foul-mouthed’ manner.

The pub on Newton Road is a stone’s throw away from Lowton St Mary's C of E Primary School, with parents of pupils often using the car park at the start and end of the school day.

However, the pub says that the car park will be closed off during the morning and afternoon to prevent this from happening.

If issues continue, The Church Inn says that it will introduce a new monitoring system that would require car park users to enter their car registration plate number to avoid a fine.

In a statement, the pub said: “After receiving verbal abuse from two female parents recently, The Church Inn car park is no longer available for parents to pick up or drop off children at school.

“The car park is for patrons of The Church Inn only.

“It will be closed off in the mornings and monitored by staff in the afternoon. Signs are now also displayed to advise people that the car park is for pub patrons only.

“If non-patrons continue to use the car park, we will be forced to introduce a parking system where your registration number will have to be entered via a keypad; otherwise, parking fines will be issued.

“The Church Inn apologises for implementing this system, but we will not tolerate foul-mouthed abuse from people who do not even come into the pub but feel that they have the right to use the car park just because their kids go to the school across the road.”
