RESIDENTS are being urged to remain vigilant after reports of young people deliberately setting fires in several areas of Leigh.
Leigh West councillor Dane Anderton has issued a warning following information shared by Greater Manchester Police relating to incidents around Fosters Playing Fields, AB World Foods, and Westleigh Park.
In a social media post, Cllr. Anderton said the behaviour posed a significant risk to both people and property.
He said: "Greater Manchester Police have shared concerns following reports of young people deliberately starting fires around Fosters Playing Fields, AB World Foods, and Westleigh Park.
"This type of behaviour is incredibly dangerous.

"What may seem like a bit of fun can quickly get out of control, putting lives at risk, damaging property, and taking firefighters and police away from genuine emergencies."
According to Cllr. Anderton, police enquiries are ongoing.
He said GMP had advised that a number of names had already been identified and that officers would be speaking with parents and carers where appropriate.
With schools now closed for the summer holidays, Cllr. Anderton urged families to discuss the dangers of fire-setting and antisocial behaviour with young people.
He said: "I'd encourage all parents and carers to have a conversation with their children about the dangers and consequences of setting fires, trespassing and other anti-social behaviour."
"A simple conversation now could prevent a serious incident later.
"Let's all work together to keep Leigh safe this summer."
Residents are being urged to report antisocial behaviour and suspicious activity to Greater Manchester Police via 101 or online.
In an emergency, people should call 999.
The Journal has contacted Greater Manchester Police for further information.
