Orange barriers were installed on Chorley Road, Westhoughton, in March, though at the time it was not known who by, or what for.
But, nearly six months later, the work is still incomplete, with residents left wondering when the problem may be solved.

The work is now in the hands of Cadent Gas.
A spokesperson for Cadent Gas said: “We are assisting Bolton Council to resolve an issue that has been identified with a water drain.
“After doing its own excavations in recent months, the council asked us to look at our gas main in the footpath.

"This is the work we have done this week. We have been able to do this by keeping roads open and ensuring there is no impact on gas supply.
“We expect to be offsite next week, with the water drain and gas pipes all checked and any issues resolved.”

According to Cadent Gas, the work was only recently passed over to them after preparatory work from Bolton Council.
Work on the site has now begun, with a series of cones set up around the work site in preparation.
Westhoughton councillor David Wilkinson is one of the people frustrated by the slow progress of the work.
Cllr Wilkinson said: "For anyone who has mobility issues or a pram they would struggle to get past on the narrow strip of footpath.
"The hole has been there so long one of the yellow footplates has ended up stuck down in it."

Traffic is still able to pass by relatively unimpeded - the only issue is for people attempting to pass by on the path, which, as a result of the work, has been narrowed.
The barriers surrounding the work have been knocked down on the road several times, according to Cllr Wilkinson.
