A NEW evening walk is giving people a chance to remember loved ones.

Wigan & Leigh Hospice has launched its first Twilight Walk as a gentle event to honour and celebrate the lives of those who have passed away.

The walk will take place on Thursday, September 17, starting and ending at the hospice on Kildare Street in Hindley.

Participants will follow a calming route through Amberswood Local Nature Reserve.

Lindsey Butler, fundraising and community engagement manager at Wigan & Leigh Hospice, said: "We know that for so many people, memories of someone they love are never far away.

"We wanted to create an event that gives people the time and space to remember those special people, while coming together as a community.

"Our first Twilight Walk is going to be a really special evening.

"It's not about speed or distance – it's about taking a moment to reflect, share memories and celebrate lives.

"We hope people will join us, walk together and help us continue providing vital care and support to local families."

The walk is designed to offer a peaceful, inclusive space for reflection, with candle lighting, message writing and quiet moments along the route.

Registration opens at 5pm at the hospice, with the walk beginning at 6pm.

The entry fee is £25 for adults and £10 for under-18s, and includes a free event t-shirt.

Refreshments will be available to purchase before and after the walk.

There is no minimum fundraising requirement, but participants are encouraged to raise what they can through sponsorship or donations.

Funds raised will support the hospice’s work in providing specialist palliative and end-of-life care to patients and families across the Wigan borough.

The route is not confirmed as wheelchair accessible due to its rural nature, but assessments are ongoing.

Supporters are welcome to visit the hospice’s Memory Garden before and after the walk to reflect and pay tribute to loved ones.

Registration can be completed online or by contacting the hospice’s fundraising office at 01942 524203 or by emailing fundraising@wlh.org.uk.
