THE Met Office has forecast a wet start to Friday, but a brighter and warmer weekend ahead.

Friday morning in Leigh will be unsettled, with rain most likely between 6am and 8am.

The chance of rain will be between 60 and 80 per cent, before dropping to 20 per cent by 9am, 10 per cent by mid-morning, and generally below 5 per cent through much of the afternoon.

The maximum temperature will be 19C, but it will feel closer to the mid-teens during the wet morning, particularly in exposed areas.

Winds will strengthen through the day, generally south-westerly at 10-17mph, with maximum gusts around 37mph, making it feel cooler at times.

Cloud will dominate early on, but brighter intervals should develop from late morning onwards.

Saturday will be more settled, with lengthy dry spells and some sunshine.

The maximum temperature will be 19C, with lighter winds than Friday.

Rain chances are generally low, mostly around 10 per cent during the morning and falling to below 5 per cent through the afternoon.

There is only a small risk of a shower overnight into early Sunday, with rain probabilities briefly reaching around 30 per cent after midnight.

Expect a mix of sunshine and patchy cloud throughout, with the brightest conditions likely from late morning into the afternoon.

Sunday is set to be the warmest and brightest day of the weekend, with temperatures climbing to 25C by mid-afternoon.

Rain chances remain very low for most of the day, generally around 10 per cent in the morning and below 5 per cent from early afternoon onwards.

A small chance of rain returns later at night.

Early cloud should break to give good sunny intervals, particularly from late morning.

The weekend shows a clear improvement after Friday's wet start.

Temperatures remain around 19C on Friday and Saturday before turning significantly warmer on Sunday, reaching 25C.

The Met Office forecast also indicates low pollen levels throughout the period.

Visibility may be reduced temporarily in heavier rain on Friday morning but should otherwise be generally good across the weekend.
