SIX pubs from the Leigh, Atherton and Tyldesley areas have been included in the 2027 CAMRA Good Beer Guide, which has been released today.

The definitive real ale guidebook features with plenty of familiar faces and the return of a couple of others.

The 54th edition of the Good Beer Guide on sale here features more than 4,500 recommended pubs across the United Kingdom based on the real ale and facilities on offer at each venue.

There are two pubs each from the towns of Leigh, Atherton and Tyldseley.

The Leigh pair included in the real ale bible are close together on Leigh Road with Wetherspoon’s Thomas Burke and The Bobbin.

The large Wetherspoon’s is named after the Leigh tenor dubbed the Lancashire Caruso.

The Bobbin is a small, friendly micropub that boasts a fine selection of rotating cask beers.

The walls and doors boast CAMRA awards dating back to 2017. It has been a regular entry in the Good Beer Guide since 2019.

And you can see why – there’s an ever-changing range of decent cask ale, from light to dark – all in pristine condition and not too hard on the pocket. Plenty of those were sourced from regional micro-breweries and they flag up what they have up on the bar on their Bobbin Facebook.

The Bobbin is one of the 175 pubs nationally recently featured in the book Happy Hours - A Great British Pub Diary with an excerpt here.

Over in Atherton, the Atherton Arms on Tyldesley Road again features with its strong offering of Holts beer and comfortable surroundings, with a full sized snooker table.

Moorhouse’s beers feature strongly in the renamed Witch House Tap on Warburton Place, just off Market Street.

The Tyldesley Good Beer Guide list again boasts the Mort Arms, on Elliott Street, and Castle Street’s outstanding pub Union Arms.
