On arrival, the first floor of the property was well alight, according to Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS).

Firefighters rescued one man and two dogs from a first-floor window using a ladder.

The man was assessed by firefighters before being handed into the care of North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) and taken to hospital.

Crews wearing breathing apparatus used two hose reels, positive pressure ventilation and other specialist equipment to extinguish the fire.

They also carried out safety checks on neighbouring houses.

Firefighters remained at the scene for around three hours.

GMFRS has not provided details of the cause of the fire.
