LEIGH Spinners Mill has reassured visitors, customers and tenants that the historic site remains open after the company behind the manufacturing business entered administration.

Leigh Spinners Limited was placed into administration last month, with most of its approximately 40 staff made redundant.

But Leigh Spinners Mill has now issued a statement on Facebook stressing that the mill and businesses operating from the site remain open and unaffected.

The post said: “We would like to reassure all visitors, customers and tenants that Leigh Spinners Mill and all businesses operating within the mill remain open and unaffected based on recent news.”

It encouraged people to continue visiting and supporting the independent businesses based at the site.

The mill is also preparing to hold a Halloween Spectacular Open Day on Saturday, October 31.

Leigh Spinners Mill is home to more than 100 independent businesses, community organisations, visitor attractions and creative spaces, according to its website.

The historic building is operated by Leigh Building Preservation Trust.

The reassurance comes after Leigh Spinners Limited entered administration on September 24.

BDO LLP, which was appointed as joint administrator, said the company had employed around 40 people and that most had been made redundant, with a small number retained in the short term to assist the administrators.

Joint administrator Chris Skey said cashflow problems and reduced demand caused by a market downturn had affected the company's ability to trade.

He said: “This is a very sad outcome for a long-established family business that has a history in the local area dating back to 1913.”

The administration relates to Leigh Spinners Limited and does not mean the wider mill complex has closed.

Leigh Spinners Mill has been transformed from a historic textile mill into a destination for businesses, culture and community, with organisations operating across its five floors.

The mill is located on Park Lane in Leigh.
